After spending two years at <a rel="mw:WikiLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/Kansas_State_University" title="Kansas State University" id="mwGQ">Kansas State University</a>, Peterson earned his B.A. at the <a rel="mw:WikiLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/University_of_Kansas" title="University of Kansas" id="mwGg">University of Kansas</a> and then took his Ph.D. in the history of American civilization at <a rel="mw:WikiLink" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/Harvard_University" title="Harvard University" id="mwGw">Harvard University</a>.
